Mirage have launched a new buyer’s guide dedicated to operators and engineers completing decommissioning oil and gas projects over the next few years.
Decommissioning has become the buzzword in the offshore industry since the turn of the decade. Dwindling oil prices combined with an ever-maturing basin in the UKCS has turned operators’ attention towards decommissioning their ageing assets, big and small.
The North Sea alone will see flagship decom projects come to fruition with Brent, Miller, Murchison and Thames already well under way towards their seven-year deadline. The offshore industry are sure to keep a close eye on these projects in their quest to complete a field decommission in a cost effective and efficient manner.
The hope from the industry, the UK government, and the offshore trade association, Oil & Gas UK, is that a flourish of finance in the decommissioning industry will open doors to new innovations that continue to cut the extortionate costs of ending an asset’s life, which was forecast at £14.6 billion ($23.1 billion) to UK companies over the next 10 years.
Combined with the government’s DRD (Decommissioning Relief Deed) which is set to free up a further £2.2 billion ($3.49 billion) worth of investment, operators and decommissioning engineering firms have been dealt a helping hand to abandon their assets.
Mirage themselves have continued to innovate for the sake of higher efficiency and lower costs; and it is their new buyer’s guide is the result of that innovation and over 20 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry.
