Introducing the MLB Line Boring Machine

Posted by Alan Hillier on Aug 18, 2017 3:39:59 PM

In 1993 Mirage reinvented the flange facing machine. We analyzed what was already out there, improved on what we found and then came up with a range of market leading machines that helped us grow to where we are today.

Now we've done the same again, but this time by developing a line boring machine that we think will be more robust and reliable than those currently available. In this 'In Focus' article we bring you an overview video, we explain the features and benefits of the new machine and touch on the options available.

Applications for MLB Line Boring Machines

The MLB is our new machine designed for smaller line boring projects with common examples being the refurbishment of construction vehicles when  hinge pins, buckets and backhoe loaders have been subject to excessive wear.

Options

The 610 in the MLB610 name refers to the leadscrew length of the standard machine. However, you won't be restricted to this stroke length as there are 305mm and 915mm lengths available.

There are many other options available to extend the capabilities of the machine. These include;

  • Choice of pneumatic, hydraulic and electric motors
  • Bar lengths of 1m, 1.5m, 2m,2.5m and 3m and 3.5m
  • Imperial bar sizes and collets available
  • Facing heads
  • Small bore Kits
  • Microbore kits
  • Bore welders
  • Tooling and tool inserts
  • Drilling accessories
  • Magnetic dial indicator,
  • Digital calipers

Performance and ease of use

Electric drives are very popular and convenient, the standard motors produce 2.5 kw (3.3Hp) and will be more than capable of carrying out typical line boring tasks. But if you're woking on a project that requires more torque, the optional hydraulic motors are an excellent option. The largest of the two options available is capable of producing an impressive 1500N.m at the bar.

As well as performance, we've designed the range of modules to ensure easy installation on the job. A typical set up time for an experienced engineer is normally around 30 minutes.
