In this regular feature for the Mirage blog we'll be taking an in-depth look at a specific portable machine tool. This week we're inspecting the MM300e (0-12") external flange facing machine.

The MM300e is an externally mounted flange facing machine used for many types of hinges, seal grooves, weld preps and counter bore applications.

It features a high accuracy bearing, helical gear drive for improved surface finish, fast set 4 jaw base and swivel tool post and groove attachments.

Casing threading with the MM300e

Mirage worked with a client in Kuwait onshore where a 9-5/8" casing required cutting and extending by re-threading in situ to enable wellhead refurbishment to take place. The casing also required a tapered butress thread with an Api profile.

The machine clamped around the casing and was also centralised allowing quick set up true to the casing outside diameter. The turning attachment then turned the outside diameter taper.

The threading attachment was then engaged to create the buttress thread form with the correct pitch to allow casing make up.
