flange-alignment-flange-closing-toolln our previous article we looked at flange spreaders, so continuing the theme we now take a look at flange alignment and flange pulling tools.

Flange alignment tools are used to align or re-align flange joints during pipework construction, commissioning or during routine maintenance. This might be when replacing an RTJ of ring or when the flange face needs re-machining using a flange facing machine.

Once broken down, a previously assembled flanged joint may spring out of alignment at any point or in any direction around its circumference. Misalignment may not be visible until only a few bolts remain.

How flange alignment tools work

The tool is attached to the flange joint where misalignment is at its greatest and then it pushes and pulls the flanges into correct alignment. Misalignment may be either lateral and rotational (twisted).
Various sizes of alignment tools are available to suit the various standard flange sizes, each using mechanical torque to advance the screw bolt which aligns the flanges.

Flange Pulling/Closing

Flange Closing tools are also used on pipe connections, pulling flanges together during installation or maintenance. Normally, 2 tools are used as a minimum but the FC10TE can be used in greater multiples to achieve the pulling force required.

Taking the Equalizer FC10TE as an example, this product has been designed utilizing tandem hydraulic cylinders to create a very low profile. This makes it suitable for use on small diameter flanges with limited access, as well as for larger flanges.
