The Mirage team has been out and about at key industry events this month.
Nuclear Decommissioning Authority
On 6 November, Mirage representatives joined over 1500 delegates at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Supply Chain Conference in Manchester at the event, with this year’s theme of ‘Connect and Collaborate’ designed to provide links between the decommissioning supply chain and plants within the NDA estate.
Baroness Verma, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Department of Energy & Climate Change formally opened the proceedings, with a speech around the importance of the supply chain within the decommissioning sector to help contribute towards business success.
Mirage was also among 260 exhibitors taking part in the ensuing exhibition to showcase the range of portable machine tools, such as split frame pipe cutters (MSF) and band saws that can be used as part of the decommissioning process. As part of its commitment to the nuclear decommissioning sector, Mirage is proud to be a signatory to the NDA Supply Chain Charter; which aims to foster good working relations across the NDA estate’s supply chain, with all parties signing up to a set of principles encouraging mutually beneficial and rewarding relationships.

A few days’ later, Mirage attended the RenewableUK conference, also in Manchester from 11 – 13 November. Attracting over 4,000 delegates, this is the flagship event for the renewables industry.
Renewables and Wind power is now an established part of the UK energy mix, periodically exceeding the nuclear sector for contribution to the electrical demand.
The conference highlighted:
- Further development of on-shore and off-shore wind farms, involving numerous equipment suppliers and ranging from small, local developments to large, multi-machine projects.
- The industry is actively pursuing both political support and technological developments to achieve the industry aspirations to firstly compete with, and secondly eclipse, fossil fuels as the UKs long term electrical supply platform.
Mirage is working closely with a number of larger OEMs, supporting both wind turbine and wind tower manufacturers to deliver high quality, robust solutions – for example for the machining of large flanges, wind turbine rotor blades and wind turbine tower flanges.
