3 essential tools for shipbuild and repair

Shipbuild and repair tools

Large capacity orbital milling

Working with clients across South East Asia, Mirage's large capacity orbital milling tool fits the bill for any ship and vessel refurbishment.

With diameters of up to 4.5 metres and 6 metres respectively, the OM4500 and OM6000 machines were used to machine a large flange accurately and as flat as possible.

The OM6000 was used specifically to work on ship thruster flanges and thruster fabricated housings too.

Vessel nozzle weld profiles

Projects in Saudi Arabia required a large vessel with heavy schedule pipe to have holes and weld preparations made for the nozzles. Traditional this would be done by flame cutting and then hand ground to the required angle.

Mirage helped to develop the VNWP1000 weld prep tool with magnetic clamping to reduce safety risk and increase accuracy.

Working with a 120mm plate thickness, the weld prep tool was completely autonomous CNC gantry milling system to cut and prep the hole.

Orbital milling

Used across the Middle-East, the orbital milling range, particularly the OM8000-H was required to undertake a long reach/recess milling, single point flange facing, single point boring, incremental drilling and machining of offshore-to-ship product buoys.

The hugely versatile machine, the OM8000-H with additional deep boring and milling capabilities was deployed complete with a Mirage HT40 drilling and boring machines.

So too was a Mirage engineer who provided specialist support for the project, and helped to maintain the machine's accuracy during initial and final setting of the machine - the flatness tolerance of this was set at 0.22mm at a 5 metre diameter.
